At JARCO we take pride in making healthy vegan desserts that taste great. But what does it mean for dessert to be healthy? Usually it encompasses using fresh and good quality ingredients, as well as following all health and regulation rules when preparing them. However, even with all these steps taken into consideration the degree of healthiness varies a lot.
Most businesses are putting emphasis on preparing deserts that can be stored longer, because it’s less risky. If nobody buys it this week, they can store it for another few weeks and sell it later. Good, right? Well, not really. To increase storage life of the product they would have to add preservatives or keep it frozen. Though, in both cases there is a sacrifice. If you add preservatives, such as:
- lot’s of sugar 👎
- lot’s of salt 👎
- Nitrites (nitrates and nitrosamines) 👎
- Butylated Hydroxyanisole 320 (BHA) and Butylated Hydroxytoluene 321 (BHT) 👎
- Sulfites 👎
- Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Benzoate and Benzene 👎
desserts become unhealthy. At JARCO, we don’t do that! Our goal is to make your life healthier and that is why we don’t add preservatives to our desserts. We also cook them at the day we receive an order, so it’s always fresh and you can feel it when you eat it. Freezing is another option, but it doesn’t work for many desserts if you want them to taste fresh.
As a result, storage life is relatively short, but it’s worth it! To help our customers prolong it, we offer cookies in a jar (jar can be refiled or returned for refund) and give instructions on a label on how to best store each dessert.
